Life in Spain 7

On this Life in Spain vlog, Em and I head to Avila in search of Yemas and a photo I took 2 years ago.

Out of curiosity, I tried to find a recipe for Yemas to see what they were made of. The first recipe I found asked for calamansi juice (what? squid juice?) and the Yemas had to be cooked in a kawali. I finally figured out that this was the Phillipino version of Yemas- never did figure out what a kawali was. Then, I saw a recipe for Yemas de Avila. The ingredients included lots of egg yolks, sugar, cinammon stick, lemon rind and confectioners sugar to top off the candies. Sounds harmless enough. Emily's reaction to Yemas is like my reaction to Turrones. Maybe Spain only created one good dessert: Flan!

Awesome. You do realize that I must now make a trip to Avila just to try these disgusting little yemas. They sound awful. In fact, when Em spit out the stuff, it looked exactly like the pigeon poop in Paris. For some reason, the bird poop here is egg yellow. WTF!?

Great editing, BTW!

Thanks, Omid. I definitely recommend it. Btw, I am sure I can snag you a couch in Salamanca but unfortunately I won't be there. I moved out last Saturday. The roommates were cool though :)

And Aunt Laura, I say you must never have tried Chocolate con Churros. El postre del reyes.
